Safety is a term with many sides and facets. In electro technology, the traditional safety concern is electrical safety regarding fire and electrocution, which therefore from early times have been subject to regulations and conformity assessment. Over the years, other hazards have come into focus too, such as radiation and chemical matters. For certain products, however, also functional and operational safety have become aspects to ensure. An increasingly popular device is electrical scooters which are driven by Li-Ion batteries with some inherent risks, while the operational hazards of these vehicles are of increasing concern. The successful international CB Scheme was established in 1985 and hence celebrates its 40 years anniversary this year. ‘CB’ simply stands for Certification Body. and the scheme is a part of the IECEE, which was a merger between the former Europe-based CEE and the IEC, hence that acronym.
New requirement for market access in Guinea-Bissau
The national authority for IT and communication isARN(Autoridade Regladora Nacional das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação), which amongst other is the body for approving ICT products that are to be marketed in Guinea-Bissau, based on compliance with applicable standards.
ARN has now issued a new regulation which directly impacts all types of approval applications for ICT equipment and is effective immediately.
On 4th Sept., an international summit denoted AI Trust in Electronics took place in Oslo, Norway,organized jointly by IBM Norway and Nemko Digital with IBM’s premises in Oslo as the venue. It was attended physically by about 60 business leaders, regulators, and innovators + about 100 online.
Electric scooters (e-scooters) have emerged as a convenient and green mode of urban transport worldwide. Being environmentally friendly, flexible, convenient and cheap for transport, e-scooters are a popular option for short trips, commutes, leisure and tourist activities.
Being two-wheeled, they have high maneuverability and with electric motor powered by chargeable battery, they do not need fuel.
It is surprising to find that such devices (namedAutoped) were in fact made and used already more than 100 years ago
Status of mutual recognition of testing between Korea and Indonesia
Following the signing of the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between Korea and Indonesia earlier this year for certification of telecom equipment(as reported in the June-issue of this newsletter), on 8-11 September a delegation from the Indonesian government visited theNemko Korea headquarteroutside Seoul.
The visit was arranged at the invitation of the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA). During their stay, the delegation toured amongst other Nemko’s laboratory facilities and theRAPA IoTTechnology Center and also participated in both theoretical and hands-on training on Korea’s KC certification (EMCandRF).
