The Roman year 2025 is also over. As always, it has been a good year for many of us, while for many others around the world, it certainly has not been so. And in world history, this year will surely be marked as another annus horribilis due to ongoing wars, increasing unrest in several places and increasing geopolitical uncertainty. We must hope and trust that 2026 will prove to be better. In any case, I take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in this monthly publication from Nemko, and hope that you have a nice holiday and a good start to the new Roman year 😊
This last issue for 2025 covers the below listed topics, which are hopefully found to be of interest.
During the Christmas and New Year season, a distinct sight around the globe today compared to previous times, is the decorative lights in all different shapes and forms, outside and inside houses and buildings, in streets and squares, etc. It is especially visible and appreciated in the northern hemisphere, in countries with many dark hours at this time of the year.
What has caused this situation is clearly the invention and amazing development of the light source LED (Light-Emitting Diode), partly because of the possibility of having miniature light bulbs but mainly because of low energy consumption.
The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) is the body responsible for type approval of telecom equipment in the country.
In general, according to the Communications Regulatory Act 2012 (CRA), all telecommunications terminal equipment and all radio equipment (including broadcast equipment and postal equipment) must be registered for type approval. The conformity requirements are basically identical to those in the EU and use of Declaration of Conformity according to EU directive 2014/53/EU. The type of approval process does not require local laboratory testing or contact with local representatives.
It appears that 2025 has been an extraordinary year in the evolution of AI. Developments have moved at remarkable speed, reshaping industries, challenging assumptions, and redefining what responsible and trustworthy AI must look like.
Experts see four themes taking center stage: - The rise of strategic and responsible procurement of AI solutions, - The need to scale AI governance with the right tooling and technology, - The growing urgency of bringing AI Agents under control, and - A continuous regulatory dynamic that will influence the landscape worldwide.
New agreement with certification body in Kazakhstan
In 2014, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was established as a multi-national free trade agreement between Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Belarus, creating a single market for goods, services, capital, and labor, much like the European Union (EU). The establishment of the EAEU was at the time perceived as something positive for international trade as well as start of a stabilizing factor for the Eurasian region. The war in Ukraine has clearly changed that perception entirely. Western sanctions have since significantly affected the nature and extent of trade with- as well as between the EAEU member states.
Recognized for testing cybersecurity of consumer products
A globally recognized cybersecurity standard for consumerIoTproducts is the ETSI EN 303 645:2020. As electrical and electronic consumer products represent most of the product categories being internationally certified within theIECEE/CB scheme, this cyber security standard has since 2023 been included in the scheme’s scope of standards.
So far, only 15 out of the presently 94 IECEENCBsare qualified for certifying products to the standard ETSI EN 303 645:2020, including Nemko and 5 of its associatedCBTLs, i.e. Norway, India, Korea, China and Taiwan.
