De-globalization has gradually been affecting trade flows and competitiveness. But these days, global trade is holding its breath to see what may become or not become out of the just started apparent trade war. Not least does this affect the trade of electrical and electronic products, which is amongst the largest group of products traded internationally as referred to in the second article below.
The future of global trade has been expected to be driven by innovation, digitalization, a just transition, and inclusiveness but faces tough challenges.

In Vietnam, the Ministry of Information & Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) are merging. This may have a substantial impact on policies and fundamental regulations related to quality inspection procedures, conformity certification, and the declaration of conformity for IT and Communication (IT&C) products.
- Wi-Fi 6E band included in the regulation
After apublic consultation by MIC regarding permissible frequency bands for wireless local area networks, they released on 31 MarchCircularNo.01/2025/TT-BHKCNwhich added the frequency band â5925 - 6425 MHzâ for WLAN/RLAN devices, with effective date 15 May this year.
- SAR testing becomes mandatory
At the end of last year, the MIC released Circular 19/2024/TT-BTTTwith a national technical regulation for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). The regulated is denoted QCVN 134:2024/BTTTT, and its scope of handheld products.
The global trade of electrical/electronic products â Quo vadis
Consumer electronics and IT & communication products (IT&C) are amongst the product categories with significant increase in demand during 2024 and Q1/2025. The surge in demand for certain product types is assumed to be caused mostly by changing consumer preferences, technological advancements, and economic developments.
The Ministry of Communication, Posts & Digital Economy (ARCEP), which is the Nigerian regulatory authority for telecommunication, has published a new Decree No. 000/MCP/EN/SG/DL, which updates their type approval requirements for telecom equipment sold and used in the country. This decree introduces a modernized compliance framework aimed at enhancing the oversight and technical integrity of such equipment.
North America based European Notified Body for cybersecurity and common chargers
In addition to Nemko in Norway, also Nemko in North America has now been officially appointed by the European Commissionas a Notified Body for Cyber security and the Common Charger articles of the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED) (2014/53/EU). This recognition extends the current scope of Nemko North America, Inc., as a Notified Body under the RED.
