Globalization was during the past 40-50 years experienced as the natural development and logical solution for successful world trade and prosperity and for securing peace between countries/regions. At the same time, however, the globalization has resulted in shifts in the distribution of wealth and strength which cause challenges, but also new opportunities. During recent years, the trend seems to shift more towards regionalization regarding both trade, politics and leadership.
One increasingly important example is Africa, where a recently published concept paper outlines the setting-up of an African continental framework for technical regulations, which is reported in the first article below.
