Dear Reader The eco-sustainability question is one of the most important at the center of the political, economic, and social debate of recent decades. Awareness has grown that plastic, if not properly recycled, is an enemy material of the Earth. Therefore, it is necessary to limit its use. There are now innovative, non-petroleum-based materials available that are sustainable and biodegradable. For electrical and electronic products and components, due to heat/fire resistance, mechanical strength, and other factors, the possibilities for using such materials are, however, limited. For environmental gains, one is primarily looking for ways to reduce the use of plastics as well as ways to optimize recycling. In this respect, the use of biodegradable materials as a binder for PCBs appears promising as described in the second article below.
Telecommunication- and broadcasting equipment are amongst the many types of products that require certification in Mexico before placed on the market and sold. It includes equipment that are data transmitters (digital, analogical, LAN or WAN systems) and those intended to be connected to the Public Telecom Network (PTN) and designed to process, receive, transmit or convert signals.
Waste of electrical and electronic equipment (E-Waste) has emerged as a serious issue for the whole world along with the evolution of modern industry. E-waste plastic contains heavy metals (arsenic, mercury, chromium, cadmium, lead, etc.) and halogen materials (bromine, chlorine, etc.), which are toxic and harmful to the environment. Therefore, the recycling of the plastic content is necessary and critical.
The international IECEE/CB Scheme has essentially been used for type certification of end-products, but also for components with applicable standards. Otherwise, components are documented as integral parts of the end-products. This certification has commonly been referred to as the CBTC (Test Certificate) program, as described in theIECEE Operational Document OD-2037.
