Dear Reader Firstly, Happy New Roman Year, which we must hope and believe will be a good one đ
There are ongoing concerns and discussions worldwide at different levels in many areas of society to which extent Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a blessing or a curse. An example is a conference being planned this spring by the TIC council which refer to a global race between regions to be the first arbiters of AI. It is asked how this will affect consumersâ and citizensâ trust in a technology that has the potential to revolutionize all facets of our lives, and also how this will impact global innovation and cooperation. Clearly, governmental regulations are essential for this area, but also both standardization and conformity assessment can play vital roles in this context. The first article below describes some important âhandlesâ for this, which have just been launched.
Standard and regulations for secure management of AI
At the very end of last year, the standard ISO/IEC 42001 was launched, resulting from a joint standardization project between the ISO and the IEC. It is an international standard for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) within organizations.
Intro of cybersecurity requirements for connected products in Europe
Serious cyberattacks on connected products are increasing. A recent horrible example is Russian military intelligence's hacking into Ukrainian privately owned online surveillance cameras to prepare for and adjust military strikes on Kyiv, thus turning everyday devices into espionage tools.
In the EU/EEA member countries, theCyber Resilience Act (CRA) shall apply to all products that are connected either directly or indirectly to another device or to a network. This regulation is expected to enter into force early this year and then be mandatory after 36 months, i.e. early 2027.
- Mandatory certification in India postponed for some telecom products
Under the MTCTE scheme in India for Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment,44 products are listed as part of the Phases III and IV. However, the date for mandatory certification has for 12 types of products been extended by three months, i.e. from 1 January to1 April this year.
- Re-categorization of notified products and reduction of fees
According to a Notification byTEC, some products under the mandatory MTCTE scheme have been re-categorized. Now only 11 product types are under the General Certification Scheme (GCS category), while 49 product types remain under the Simplified Certification Scheme (SCS category).
New regulation in Indonesia for wide area network equipment
