Nemko News in Brief for December 2022

Dear Reader

Another year has passed and a new one is ahead.

Who could in February 2020 have imagined that one during the coming two years should experience both a global pandemic and a full-fledged war in Europe?  

Hope that you are not much affected neither by the remaining pandemic nor by effects of the war.    

Fortunately, vaccination seems effective to prevent widespread serious consequences of Covid, but there is unfortunately no vaccination to prevent devastations by war nor prevent other major challenges some regions are experiencing, as poverty, hunger and effects of extreme weather.  We must trust that 2023 will prove better.

Now hoping that you are having a nice celebration and a good start of the Roman New Year 😊

Some simplification of the Indian certification scheme for telecom equipment

In India, the scheme for mandatory testing and certification of telecom
equipment (MTCTE) covers basically 46 types of telecom products which are subject to certification by the telecom authority TEC, based on testing by labs designated by TEC, such as Nemko India. 

China's dominating supply chain role at risk  

There is apparently signs of an ongoing trend for the global manufacturing industry chain to be shifting outside China to avoid the risk by relying on a single manufacturing base. Due to delivery disruptions caused by the pandemic and also geopolitical tensions, global makers of consumer electronics like mobile phones and tablets, for whom China has for decades now been by far the main production country for their products, are finding alternative locations to diversify their manufacturing.  

Postponed implementation of new European safety standard edition for electronics  

The current version of the international risk-based safety standard for electronic equipment is IEC 62368-1, 3^rd Edition.
It was developed and is updated by the IEC technical standards committee TC108. 

European eco-design requirements for power supplies in server/data storage equipment postponed  

The new European eco-design requirements for servers and data storage products according to EU Regulation 2019/424 (Annex II.1.1.2) were planned implemented from 1 January 2023. It would then entail higher efficiency requirement for power supply units (PSUs) in server/data storage equipment.  

New head in Korea

In September, Nemko Korea moved into a brand-new building with extended facilities and then on 1 December welcomed a new General Manager, Mr.Seung-In Yang (in English: Steve Yang).
Mr.Yang comes from the Korean testing and certification body KTC (formerly KETI) and has background from the Korean electro technical industry, including LG Electronics.
