Time is passing and winter is again approaching, which is quite noticeable here in Northern Europe. The editor just got back from somewhat milder Italy, where he was leading a 3-yearly IECEE peer assessment of several CB scheme testing laboratories (CBTLs) and their associated national certification body (NCB).
In the August issue of this newsletter, the amazing developments in «Ds» (multi-dimensions) in both printing and scanning were a topic. In this November issue, however, another area with amazing developments is covered, namely the «Gs» (generations) in communication technology as described in the 2nd article below.
And as communication technology advances and its use keeps wide spreading, means to ensure cyber security are also developing, as outlined in the 4th article below.
Regulatory changes for telecom equipment in Philippines
The Philippines’ National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has introduced
significant amendments to the type approval regulations for telecommunications equipment operating within the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band. These changes are intended to ensure that all equipment remains compliant with the regulatory standards for Short Range Devices (SRDs) which were announced in July this year.
The evolution of wireless communication technologies
The evolution of generations in wireless communication technologies has been marked by significant technological advancements, transforming the way one communicates and connects with the world.
When the first generation (‘1G’) of wireless mobile phone technology was introduced in the early eighties, the signals were merely analog and the quality of voice calls was generally poor, with frequent static and dropped calls. It had low data security and was primarily limited to voice communication.
Approval requirements for electronic equipment in Malavi
Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is located in Southeastern Africa with borders to Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique. The country has presently a population of about 21 million with Lilongwe as the capital and the largest city. The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced the introduction of new type approval regulations for electronic communication equipment, including guidelines for the approval and for stricter labeling requirements.
Update on various requirements for IoT cyber security
The IEC Academy recently held a webinar with an update of present regulations and standards around the world for Internet of Things connected products, such as:
California SB-327 - A US state law that went into effect on 1 January 2020. The purpose of this law is to extend already existing privacy laws to connected devices and the information they collect, store, and transmit. It requires i.a. that the device should be designed to protect that information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure.
