Dear Reader, The highlight of ‘industrial revolution’ so far in this century is undoubtedly the modern smartphone. This created a new era, largely credited to the release of the first Apple iPhone in January 2007, which revolutionized mobile computing with its multi-touch interface and app ecosystem. The world's population is currently around 8 billion people, of which, incredibly, more than 80% over the age of 10 own and use smartphones, according to international statistics. And now an even more sophisticated development in personal communication and apps is emerging, as referred to in the second article below
Cambodia introducing new regulation for IT and communication equipment
The Kingdom of Cambodia is a country in Southeast Asia, being bordered by Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and the Gulf of Thailand. The country has a population of about 18 mill and Phnom Penh as the capital and largest city. The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) has announced a draft regulation (“Prakas”) for public comments (with deadline 25 May) about their technical requirements for IT & telecommunication equipment aligning with international standards.
For more than a decade now, the smartphone has dominated consumer technology. Several major technology companies are, however, considering wearable smart-glasses (Augmented Reality (AR) glasses) as the next major platform. Meta, Apple, and other industry players are investing heavily in augmented and mixed reality technologies, aiming to integrate communication, information, and digital services directly into the user’s field of view.
Updated guidance on cybersecurity for medical devices in USA
The federal U.S. authority Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is, amongst other, concerned with cybersecurity compliance for medical devices. Guidance they have issued for this emphasizes the importance of integrating cybersecurity into the total product lifecycle. So, manufacturers must demonstrate that their devices are designed with cybersecurity in mind, from initial development to deployment.
The European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is now moving toward full applicability. Manufacturers currently aligned with the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the European harmonized standard EN18031 for internet radio equipment may wonder what the practical changes are and what must be done now.
The recently released statistics by the IECEE show that a total of 134 403 international IECEE Certificates were issued in 2025 and indicate a continued strong growth (7.4 %) since the year before. The graph shows the impressive annual growth over time in the number of IECEE certificates issued annually during the past 29 years. (The high figures in 2020 and 2021 are regarded as exceptions, due to launching of some important new standard editions then).
