Dear Reader, Every day we can hear and read about the challenges with meeting the quickly growing global demand for electrical power and the state of shifting from fossil-based to renewable energy. The source and provision of the energy is, however, only a part of the equation, as outlined in the fourth article below.
China’s Ministry of Industry & Information Technology (MIIT) did at the end of May publish their Announcement No. 11 of 2026, with ‘Compliance Management Catalogue for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (2026 Edi-tion)’ together with an updated ‘Exemption List for Restricted Substance Applications’. The two new documents became effective from the date of publication.
New requirements for telecom lithium batteries in Brazil
Brazil’s telecom regulator ANATEL has recently published Law No. 5314 which implies a major compliance shift for network infrastructure equipment. It establishes new certification requirements for stationary lithium batteries used in telecom applications – a measure that will directly affect manufacturers of network infrastructure, backup power systems and data center equipment.
USA may cease recognizing conformity assessment in certain countries
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which regulates the communication in USA by radio, television, wire, internet, Wi-Fi, satellite, and cable, has proposed new rules to “support the integrity and security of electronic device testing laboratories and services”.
Energy supply security is an increasing concern for many countries worldwide as more of the energy generation shifts from fossil fuels to renewables. Oil, natural gas and coal may be finite resources but can be stored in their natural state, while energy generated by solar and wind systems are infinite but due to their intermittency, require long duration energy storage solutions (LDES) to keep supply and demand in balance across the grid.
From the illusion of autonomy to the demand for verifiable performance, AI systems are increasingly defined not by what they claim to do, but by what they can prove. In recent years, companies have increasingly promoted their products and services as AI powered, which has given rise to a growing number of so called ‘AI washing’ lawsuits.
